Lizzybus 211 – two people, one Land Rover, one hundred countries. When dreams become reality – this is our remarkable journey driving Lizzybus around the world. From untouched landscapes to the kindness of strangers, this journey tested us, broke us, and rebuilt us anew.

Lizzybus – crossing the Pyrenees France/Spain

On 16th August 2009, David and I bought an old Land Rover and set off to drive around the ‘world’. Our journey with ‘Lizzybus’ took us across six continents and through 86 countries.

I never imagined—in my wildest dreams or darkest moments—that it would be me, with my partner David, on this adventure. And if I had, it would have been nothing like the reality: blistering hot deserts, snow-covered mountains, civil wars, and uprisings, when our lives depended on each other and Lizzybus.
I only imagined the romance of living in a roof tent, waking each day to the spectacle of new horizons—not the reality of washing in a bucket, grease-filled fingernails, pubic hair beards, isolation, and loneliness. But with that came respect—for each other and Lizzybus—along with achievement and a perspective on what truly matters.

Six years, six continents, and 86 countries later—we arrived back at the Town Hall in Birmingham to a sea of faces: some familiar, others complete strangers.

Among them stood my twin sister, Jenny, holding up a full-sized bedsheet stretched between two bamboo canes—the same canes she used each year to grow her runner beans. Stitched onto it, in bold black letters, were the words:

“David and Jayne – You Did It.”
